"Majority of Americans Criticize Israel's Actions in Gaza and Support Palestine"

A recent Reuters/Ipsos poll reveals that 58% of Americans think that every member of the United Nations should officially recognize Palestine as an independent nation. Meanwhile, 33% of those surveyed oppose this recognition, and 9% chose not to comment.
The poll was conducted over six days and concluded on a Monday, shortly after countries like Canada, Britain, and France, which are strong allies of the United States, announced their plans to recognize Palestine as a state. This survey occurred amid ongoing tensions, with hopes that a ceasefire and hostage agreement between Israel and Hamas could end the conflict in Gaza. This conflict began following a deadly attack by Hamas on southern Israel, resulting in approximately 1,200 deaths and 251 hostages taken to Gaza.
Countries including Britain, Canada, and Australia, along with several European allies, have raised alarms over the severe humanitarian crisis in Gaza, suggesting that the situation has reached critical levels. Aid organizations have also warned that the people of Gaza are on the brink of famine.
The poll further indicates that 65% of Americans believe the U.S. should intervene to assist those facing starvation in Gaza, although 28% disagree. Among those who disagree, a significant portion, 41%, are Republicans aligned with former President Donald Trump.
Additionally, 59% of Americans feel that Israel's military actions in Gaza have been too extreme. This sentiment shows an increase from a similar poll in February 2024, where 53% felt the response was excessive. The recent survey involved 4,446 U.S. adults and has an error margin of about 2 percentage points.
